Amestris

Amestris is the main setting for the series Hagane no Rekinjitsushi (FullMetal Alchemist). In a glance, Amestris is a country under military rule which also has a shaky relationship with it�s neighboring countries: Drachma, separated by the Brigg Mountains, to the north, Creata (West), Aruego (South) and the Great Desert and Xing in the east.

The country is divided into four main regions, in which a military base is located looking over the region, the main being Central Headquarters located in; you guessed it, Central City. This is where all the high ranking officials and the State Alchemist exams are held.

Alchemy, being the most developed science in Amestris, is also used for military purposes, hence the State Alchemists, unlike its neighboring countries such as Xing who is said to be using alchemy for medicinal purposes.

Over the years, Amestris has had its fair share of war, but the most known up to date is the Ishbal War (also known as the East Civil War). The reason is still pretty unclear but it goes on the lines of the Ishabalians planning to revolt against the Amestris military. The war can be compared to the Holocaust of long ago, where the Ishbalians were gotten rid of. It was also said that the Ishbalians were receiving aid from its neighboring countries.
